As the general election campaign begins in Britain, a new UCU report has warned that both the ’New Labour’ government and the Conservative opposition are united in promoting policies that will further marketise and privatise the higher education system in the UK. The report warns that both parties are peddling a vision that will import the worst features ofthe US university system, reducing access, increasing dependence on private capital and fattening up the private sector to muscle in.
